This qualification has been designed to support an individual's entry into the teaching/training industry, and is aimed specifically at those wishing to be employed in the outdoor learning sector.  The qualification itself has been developed to meet the national Minimum Core Standards for Teacher Training Qualifications for the Further Education and Skills Sector and to meet the IfATE Occupational Standard for an Outdoor Learning Specialist.

 

Delivery

Topics include roles and responsibilities, learner needs, planning learning, delivering learning, inclusive learning, pedagogical principles, theories, principles and models of learning, communication and assessment.

Also included is planning and delivering outdoor learning programmes.

Studying this course will enable a learner to

  • plan and deliver sessions to groups of learners, 
  • plan a programme of work in the outdoor learning sector
  • undertake risk-benefit assessments
  • develop their professional practice to a high level
  • assignment evidence can be generated at a pace to suit each learner.

 

Requirements

To undertake this qualification, delivery of a minimum of 100 hours of teaching practice is required, with observation of some of these sessions.  Access to groups of learners and real-life teaching practice is therefore required.
